Bice
1504 Sherbrooke W. Guy-Concordia métro

Tel. 937-6009. Monday to Friday, noon to 3 p.m. Monday to Sunday, 6 p.m. to 11 P.M.
$100 for two before wine, taxes and service. Table d'hôte: $16—$21 (noon).

A more sober, chic and altogether European place would be hard to fmd, despite the titillating tourist trappings. Chef Sergio Sigala does wonders with the ingredients, whatever the season. Good champagne, port and grappa selection, but only Italian wines available. Private room and valet parking. One of the rare Montreal restaurants that looks prosperous and cared for, with a clientele to match.

Sample menu: Vivanneau tartar on a bed of lettuce spiced with tropical ginger, crab cake on a bed of bok choy with verbena sauce, Milanese minestrone, fresh pasta with lobster and mushrooms, spinach and ricotta gnocchi with prosciutto and sage, striped seabass with marjoram, fried ca!f liver with grilled polenta and red onions, hot soufflet with chocolate and cappuccino ice cream, ricotta biscuits with wild berries.
