Chez Gatsé
317 Ontario E. Berri-UQAM métro

Tel. 985-2494. Monday to Friday, 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday to Thursday, 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, 5:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Sunday, 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. $20 for two before beer, taxes and service. Table d'hôte: $6.25 (noon) , $7.50 (evening).
As Montréal's only Tibetan eatery, Chez Gatsé is a must-see, and you don't have to be a Mahayana Buddhist to eat momos. Certain specialities—the blue cheese soup, and the typical salted butter tea spring to mind—take a little getting used to, but hey, you only live once. A very friendly place, and a model of cultural integration: Shigatse is the second largest city in Tibet. A lovely terrace underneath the trees, and steamed tinmos bread. All employees are Tibetan. Mr. Kashi, the owner, can regale you with tales of Tibet.

Sample menu: Lentil soup, vegetarian noodles, cheese or vegetable momos, Lhassa chicken, strawberries or kiwis and cream.
