Chez Tung
288 Laurier W. Laurier métro and bus.

RESERVATIONS: 278- 6753. HOURS: I I a.m.—p.m. NO-SMOKING SECTION: Yes. WHEELCHAIR ACCESS: No. PRICES—TABLE D’HÔTE: $8.75. CREDIT CARDS: Visa, Mastercard, Interac.
Chez Tung's new location on Laurier, in the elegant space once occupied by the Portes à Liban, marks a real change in attitude for this little resto. Sure, the tables are too tightly packed in, and the low lights and relaxed atmosphere were largely inherited, but the food itself seems to have edged up a little higher in quality.

News! There is a table d'hôte menu that seems to be at least partially market driven. Certainly, the soup that came with the meal was served piping hot, with perfectly cooked shrimp and a lime kick on the finish.

The saumon grillé à la sauce piquante tasted recently was tender and elegant, and the other main dishes—like the crevettes et poulet à la sauce piquante, and the boeuf thailandais—were better than anything that came out of the old Chez Tung.

Chez Tung's prices are another plus: two can now eat on ritzy Laurier, including wine, for less than what a meal for one costs at the overpriced rotisserie up the street!
