Gazelle, La
201 Rachel E. Mont-Royal métro. Bus 29

Tel. 843-9598. Every day, 4:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. $45 for two before wine, taxes and tip. Table d'hôte: $11.50—$15.50 (evening).
This is one gazelle that made it to adolescence (fifteen years, now) without screwing up once! The quality of Karim's couscous even survived the move from Saint-Denis to Rachel. Inveterate fans (including the many local artistes) followed dutifully. Rather rudimentary décor(not to put too fine a point on it). The couscous, though, is the real thing. Decent bread (from the Pain doré and Portuguese bakeries). Balladi shows on Saturday. Private parking. Easy-going, considerate owners will prepare takeout orders and deliver.

Sample menu: Beets with vinaigrette, cumin carrot salad, chorba soup, brik constantinois, bouret, almond and chicken pastilla, méchoui couscous, royal couscous, vegetable couscous, prune tadjine, baklava, orange salad with nuts and cinnamon, semolina cake with dates and almonds.
