L'Actuel
1194 Peel St.

Open Mon.- Tue. from noon to 10 p.m.; Wed. from noon to 10:30 p.m.; Thur.-Fri. from noon to 11 p.m.; Sat. from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Closed Sunday. Licensed. Major credit cards. 866- 1537.
Belgian beer, mussels in or out of the shell and frites a volonté—the formula hasn't changed in the 15 years and more that L'Actuel has perched one storey above the bustle of Peel St., just below Ste. Catherine St. A recent visit confirmed that the standards are as high as ever.

There's a whole menu section of beef, but the moules, offered with a variety of garnishes and seasonings for about $20 per person, are the big sellers. Don't ignore the sophisticated appetizers. If you don't like beer, the wines are mainly in the $25-to-$50 range.
