L'Etoile de l'Ocean
101 Rachel St. E.

Open daily from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. I icensed. Accepts major credit cards. 844-4588.
Settle into this cheerful inn-like dining room and start with the two traditional Portuguese breads and the olive oil instead of butter. Move on to the prominently advertised appetizer plate: fried calamari, grilled calamari, a grilled sardine, a big grilled shrimp, and a chunk of chewy sausage plus some greens, all for $7.95.

Add a bowl of soup and you might not need a main course. Pity, though, to miss the generous and hearty seafood casserole ($18.95) or one of the codfish dishes, such as bacalhao a Braz ($14.95)—a panfry of boneless shredded codfish, potatoes and onion, with some egg to provide a creamy texture. Plenty of fresh fish, too.
