Pucapuca
5400 St. Laurent Blvd. Laurier métro

Tel. 272-8029. Tuesday to Friday, noon to 2:30 p.m.Tuesday to Saturday, 5:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. Closed Sunday and Monday.$35 for two before wine, taxes and service. Table d'hôte: $6 (noon, taxes included); $12 (evening, taxes included).
This one-of-a-kind restaurant is not only charmng and colourful, but also a real bargain (the best bang for your buck is the evening menu). Don't be fooled into thinking the name is Hindi for "very posh." Pucapuca is an Inca word meaning red-red, and Peruvian owner Ciro Wong comes from a town in the heart of the Amazon called Pucallpa (red soil). Ciro will convince you of the virtue of simplicity, if anyone can. Wines at about $10 per bottle! Vegetarlan daily dishes. Latino music. South America on a budget. Speed is not of the essence.

Sample menu: Fresh marinated ceviche, Inca salad, shrimp soup, rabbit with roasted peanuts, Creole shark, quail in mango sauce, Peruvian-style chicken ragout, veal jambalaya with fresh coriander, tropical fruit cake, chocolate and peanut cake.
