Hands down the best restaurant in the Gay Village, Resto Bleu offers a whimsically decorated room, big windows for sidewalk-parade watching, elegant service and refined, modern cooking that succeeds more often than it fails.

Appetizer salad (crunchy baby leaves), tender-crisp fried calamari (with two sauces and fresh citrus) and butter-soft, cheese-and-pesto-enhanced polenta are all excellent. Also excellent, the plump confit de canard and grilled trout on rich lentils. A bit of a lighter touch and this affordably priced charmer could become a favourite. Reservations on weekends.
