Trou Normand, Le
110 Highway 217, Saint Bernard-de-Lacolle.

Open Thurs.-Sat. from 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. Sun. from noon to 9 p.m. Closed Mon.-Wed. except for group reservations. Licensed. No credit cards (450) 246-3917.
A half-hour drive toward the U.S. border leads to this rusticly charming meat restaurant. Heavy-duty tables d'hôte take three hours of old country-style eating to enjoy, and might include pâté with tomato salad and pickles to start; outstanding Steak or rack of lamb for the main course; crisp salad; desserts and coffee.

Eating doesn't get much more nostalgic than this. Reservations essential.
